Contest Rules

Official rules and regulations for the Lion Cubs Mathematical Contest.

  • check_circle The contest is open to students aged 7–11 years at the start of the 2025–2026 academic year.
  • check_circle Students must be registered through a school Team Leader or by a parent (for individual online participation).
  • check_circle Each student participates in the age group corresponding to their age at the start of the academic year.
  • check_circle Students may not sit a paper intended for a younger age group.

app_registration Registration Rules

  • arrow_forward Schools register through the Team Leaders Portal. One teacher is designated as the Team Leader.
  • arrow_forward Each school may register up to four groups (one per age category), with up to 25 students per group.
  • arrow_forward Registration fee: KES 15,000 per team (up to 25 students), including three practice papers.
  • arrow_forward Individual students whose school is not participating may register online with a parent acting as Team Leader.
  • arrow_forward Registration must be completed before the official deadline. Late entries are not accepted.

gavel Conduct During the Contest

  • check_circle The contest must be supervised by the registered teacher or parent Team Leader at all times.
  • check_circle Students must work independently. No discussion, collaboration, or communication with other students is permitted during the test.
  • check_circle No electronic devices, calculators, or reference materials may be used.
  • check_circle Only writing materials (pencils, erasers, pens) and scratch paper are permitted.
  • check_circle Students must remain seated until they have finished or time is called.
  • check_circle The supervising teacher/parent is responsible for ensuring a quiet and fair testing environment.

description Paper Handling & Submission

  • arrow_forward Contest papers are distributed by the Team Leader through the portal during the official testing window.
  • arrow_forward Papers must not be shared, copied, photographed, or distributed outside the testing session.
  • arrow_forward Answer sheets must be submitted through the portal by the Team Leader within the specified deadline.
  • arrow_forward Late submissions may not be accepted unless prior arrangements have been made with the organisers.

error Academic Integrity

The LCMC is committed to fairness and academic integrity. The following actions will result in disqualification:

  • cancel Copying answers from another student
  • cancel Using any electronic device or calculator during the test
  • cancel Receiving help from a teacher, parent, or other adult during the test
  • cancel Distributing or sharing contest papers before, during, or after the official testing window
  • cancel Misrepresenting a student's age group

Violations may result in disqualification of the individual student, the age group, or the entire school team, at the discretion of the organisers.

  • check_circle The contest must take place in a quiet, distraction-free environment.
  • check_circle Online participation results in a raw score only — online participants are not eligible for official awards or rankings.
  • check_circle All other conduct rules apply equally to online and in-school participants.
